Rustic Boat Original Watercolor
Years ago I came across this old boat sitting dry docked in a parking lot in Monterey California. Now, you can think I’m really crazy, but I felt so sorry for it. I mean, someone had obviously cared about it, at least enough to have saved it, and hauled it to this parking lot. So I wasn’t alone in appreciating it. But it bothered me that such a picturesque boat was stranded in such a dreary parking lot.
Artistically speaking, the weathering of the wood and the flaking of the paint gave it such a wonderful patina. And the story of it was intriguing. How did it get here? What had its job been, and where was if from?
I decided to do what I could to give it a better home for its well earned retirement. I figured that painting it on a sandy beach, staring out to sea, would be just about right.
